El Rompido is a pretty fishing village by the sea and has a broad range of shops including Post Office, Bank, Pharmacy, Bakers, and Supermarkets. Nearby lies the large town of Cartaya which is a great place to visit and sample the Tapas bars, local restaurants, browse the shops or visit Carrefour…a huge Supermarket that provideds everything you might need during your stay.
El Rocio is an interesting place (45 minutes east of the villas on the road leading from Matalascanas to Almonte) and resembles a wild west cowboy town. A totally authentic Spanish town it is the focus of an annual pilgrimage from the church on Whit Sunday each year involving hundreds of thousands of people. In the summer it is much more relaxed (and quiet!!) but provides an intriguing insight in to how Spain used to be.
Regarded as the most important nature reserve in Europe, it provides any nature enthusiast with much to do and see. The park is close to the Rio Tinto mines which are open to visitors and offer all the family a spectacular day out. Weather Winters Summers With temperatures in the region of 35 degrees it is hot! Care should be taken when you are out in the sun for extended periods. Golf is inexpensive and buggies are advisable and you must drink plenty of fluids.
