Bars & Restaurants

The food and wine in this area of Spain is wonderful and there are many high quality, good value restaurants and bars for you to enjoy. The two villas are separated by a car journey of approximately 10 minutes that takes you directly along the coast just a few yards from the beach. Between the villas, beginning at El Rompido village and ending at Nuevo Portil there are bars and restaurants along the complete journey, separated every now and again by beautiful pine forests, sand dunes, and views of the beach, the sea and the “flecha” (sand spit).

Bars and restaurants we recommend…

El Rompido area……..A lovely traditional fishing village with great atmosphere and old Spanish charm. It has developed recently into a lovely mix of trendy bars, beautiful beach side restaurants, boutiques and the marina. There are festivals and fiestas through the summer adding greatly to the nightly entertainment.

Where to eat and drink in El Rompido…..

1. Caribe 2….On the beach and very popular. Serves great sea food as well as all the traditional dishes and boasts an extensive wine list to boot.

2. La Ola…next to Caribe 2 on the beach similar high quality food at great prices …good meal for 2 with wine …circa 15 to 20 euros.

3. La Patera…Again on the beach and serves a mixture of sea food and meat dishes…fancy a steak…they call it “veal”…it’s great.

4. Orange Grove…One of the few English run bars. Kevin and Dawn run an upmarket international sports bar where you can catch up on the local news whilst enjoying some great English classics…the steak and kidney pie is to die for!!.

5. Visit the Huts…(The commercial centre)…which overlook the Marina and has spectacular views of the sun sets and views back towards the Portuguese border. There are a number of high fasion boutiques and a selection of bars and restaurants…

Luz de mar….an upmarket bar serving beers, wine and cocktails. Often have live music.
La Passerella…fine Italian food, well priced with excellent service
El Foreno….international cuisine with fantastic views of the sunset and views back towards the Portuguese border. The fish soup is superb.

As you drive east out of El Rompido, along the coast road, towards Nuevo Portil and El Portil, you will notice the lovely views of the beach and small boats in the lagoon.

Pictured through frequent gaps in the pine forest this really is a beautiful part of the area. You will pass on the right…………..

6.Larahna….follow the track off the main road down to the car park and then follow the signs to this gorgeous beach restaurant and bar. Noted locally for it’s great food, atmosphere and long hours of trading (open through the night in the summer) this location is to die for. Theme nights are a regular event in high season and include Indian, Mexican, fish, and steak nights. A lively bar and often has live music.
7.Agua del Pinos…..fine restaurant with an elevated position over the sea and so has great views. Wide menu, good wine, all at competitive prices
8.El Bosque…next door and just as good.

As you enter the Portil area you will notice again a good number of bars and restaurants and places to sit and relax during a warm summer’s evening. The Irish Bar is great for guiness fans, and in El Portil there are Pizzareas, ice cream parlours and local fish restaurants. Eddy’s Surf bar is a popular spot run by Eduado and Linda who serve some great chicken dishes and a mean chilli con carne with garlic bread.

9.El Paraiso….found on the Huelva road, 2 or 3 miles out of Portil, this is regarded as the best restaurant in the area. In fact it is quite possibly one of the best in Adalucia and is the perfect choice for that special occasion. The menu is extensive and includes a sumptuous mix of traditional local dishes (meat and fish\seafood) together with some international favourites. The service is superb and the whole experience is made all the more special by an excellent selection of wines and fine brandies.

In all, eating and drinking in this part of the world is a real pleasure. Local dishes to try include Puntillitas (baby squid), Cocinas (clams), Jamon Iberico (cured ham), Gazpacho (cold soup), and of course the local fish. Iberian pork is served by a number of the better restaurants in the area  and as a classic andalucian dish is a must try before returning home.
